"EVE is no longer making referrals to the Listening Ear.
EVE is dedicated to creating safe and healing spaces for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence, EVE cannot support the inaction and decision making by the Listening Ear over the past month regarding staff members that are registered sex offenders. We believe the presence of sex offenders on their staff, in their building, and answering the crisis line puts victims and survivors at risk for further trauma. Conducting background checks, central registry clearances, and sex offender registry checks is considered a best practice when working with victims and survivors of domestic and sexual assault. The registry was created so that all communities, especially vulnerable populations, would have access to lists of people who have done harm to others and to prevent situations like this. The Listening Ear’s lack of due diligence and swift corrective action, leaves uncertainty regarding other possible risks within that agency, and we will not put our clients into more potentially dangerous and traumatic situations."
