Volunteer Position Description
Position Title: Children’s Mentor Volunteer
Supervised By: Children’s Activities Coordinator

Brief Description of the Position:
The Child Mentor works with the Youth Services Coordinator as a part of the Children's Program Team. The Child Mentor is responsible for working with children ages 10 and older, either one-on-one or in small groups. Children's Program services are dependent upon the population of children in shelter, their needs, and their schedules. Volunteer must be flexible and able to work independently.

Requirements for the Position:
• Commitment to working as part of the Children’s Program Team
• Ability to work independently with flexibility
• Strong organizational, verbal, and writing skills
• Knowledge and sensitivity of domestic violence and or crisis intervention is helpful
• Experience with children
• Minimum of a 6 month commitment

Duties:
• Set-up tutoring schedule with child(ren) and maintain scheduled appointments
• Focus on the immediate needs of the child(ren)
• Report to Youth Services Coordinator any important issues that may be occurring in the child’s life
• Assist other child mentors in organizing children’s activities for eligible children
• Work with the child(ren) to connect them to outside agencies with mentoring/after school programs so they may have continued support after leaving EVE, Inc.
• Work with children between the ages of 10-18 either one-on-one or in small groups at least once a week
• Be a Positive Role Model

Hours/week:
Minimum 4 hrs. per week
At least one semester commitment
Training hours do not count for required time commitment


Days/Hours Needed:
Dependent upon schedule created by volunteer and child(ren)

Training/Tests Required:
• Children’s Program Training
• Yearly TB Test
• EVE, Inc. Volunteer Training
