Watch Party Packet
Survivors of domestic and sexual assault risk their lives when they decide to leave a violent partner. In fact- a survivor is 7x more likely to be murdered by their abuser in the months after they leave than at any other time. Now imagine that survivor finally freeing themselves from the grip of violence- only to be re-victimized over and over again- this time in court. And the abuse doesn’t end with repeated and often unnecessary court dates. In addition to the psychological and emotional toll that constant, forced re-exposure to their abuser can cause- many of these brave people are financially drained in an attempt to maintain or enforce their newfound safety.
Legal support and advocacy can change all that. It can provide a survivor with the resources and expertise to continue on their journey of rebuilding their life. And in some cases- it can be the difference between life and death.
With your help, EVE can bring on a second staff attorney to make sure that every survivor who reaches out for help has a person who can answer the call. This will ensure survivors have access to legal representation for child custody, divorce, and landlord-tenant issues, among other legal issues survivors face.
This event will feature guest speaker, Honorable Judge Rosemarie Aquilina. Judge Rosemarie
Aquilina was elected to the 30th Circuit Court for Ingham County in November of 2008.
Previously, she served as a 55th District Court Judge for 4 years, during which time she served as
Chief Judge as well as the Sobriety Court Judge.
Your support of EVE can provide a survivor with the legal help they need. Here’s how you can help:
This fall all the money raised will be used to hire a second staff attorney. You can form a team or sponsor our fall campaign to let survivors know that your group, organization, or company stands with them.
